Abstract

This study aimed to explore the psycho-social factors influencing the trend of Cohabitation without Marriage among young adults in Isfahan and Solutions. The research employed a qualitative approach using thematic analysis. The statistical population consisted of active professionals in the field of psychology. For sampling, a purposeful criterion-based approach with theoretical saturation was utilized. The tools used included semi-structured interviews with focus groups and document analysis. Data analysis was conducted through thematic analysis. The results identified 75 indicators, 21 categories, and two main dimensions or factors titled social factors and psychological factors. Social factors included cultural elements, women's financial independence, young people's reluctance to marry, economic conditions, rising age at marriage, spread of Western culture, feminist beliefs. Psychological factors encompassed fear of marriage; cognitive aspects; psychological and behavioral problems; lack of family supervision over children's relationships or their rejection; self-disclosure; secrecy and deception; emotional decisions; quality of interactions between couples; facilitation of male-female relationships in metropolises; emotional deficiencies and needs; limitations; individual factors; relational challenges; gradual development of relationships. Analysis and explanation for each dimension were conducted using psychological and sociological approaches to recognize underlying causes contributing to this form of white marriage with the goal to enhance awareness levels and provide appropriate strategies for prevention against its adverse consequences.
