Abstract
The increase in the average age of marriage is one of the changes that has become an important emographic and social issue in recent years. The aim of this article is to investigate the effect of individual and socio-cultural factors on the delay in marriage of unmarried boys in Tehran.
The study data are the result of a cross-sectional survey conducted in the spring of 1403. The statistical population of the study includes single men aged 33-49 living in Tehran in three districts: 1, 8, and 15. The sample size was estimated to be 380 people using the Cochran formula. The sampling method was a combination of multi-stage stratification and simple random sampling.
The results of multivariate analysis showed that the variables of desire for single life, changing value of marriage, friendship experience, amount of use of social networks, and individualism, respectively, are the strongest predictors of delaying the age of marriage. The variables of changing the value of marriage, individualism, friendship experience, and the amount of use of social networks, in addition to their direct effect on delaying the age of marriage, are also very effective in delaying the age of marriage indirectly through their effect on the variable of desire for single life.
