Abstract

This research aimed to design a talent development model in Iranian youth championship sports: A new look at the future of national sports, using a qualitative case study method. Participants included 18 coaches of grassroots national teams who were selected through purposive sampling based on theoretical saturation. Semi-structured interviews (individual and group) and document analysis were used to collect data, and Lincoln and Guba criteria were used to ensure validity and reliability. The final research model was developed within the framework of the Glaser approach. The research findings identified five key axes at the level of main categories. The key structures of the talent development system include the establishment of an integrated and strategic governance system for talent development, the development of infrastructure and resources supporting talent growth, the professionalization of the coaching system and the development of human capital in grassroots sports, and the institutionalization of a growth-oriented culture and a human-educational approach to championships. The factors of infrastructure and capacities that create the basis for talent development include structural characteristics and the grassroots sports ecosystem in the country, scientific, technological and innovative capacities supporting talent development, social, cultural and family capacities supporting the path to championships, and economic, managerial and supportive contexts that develop talents. The factors that challenge and moderate the realization of the talent development model include the quality of implementation, coordination and institutional will to realize the talent development model, and the sustainability of psychological, social and environmental factors affecting the path of talent growth.
