Abstract
The aim of this study was to explain and predict the motivation to participate in recreational sports activities in Tehran. This research was conducted using a mixed method (qualitative-quantitative), the qualitative part of which was based on the Strauss and Corbin approach using grounded theory. In the qualitative part, the research strategy was exploratory and conducted through interviews with experts (cultural, artistic, and sports managers). The results showed that the causal conditions variable can strongly explain and predict the motivation to participate in sports activities. The statistical interpretation of this issue is that by changing one unit in the causal conditions, it is expected that 0.0984 units of change in motivation to participate in sports activities will occur. Also, the contextual conditions variable is able to explain and predict the motivation to participate in sports activities on average, and it is predicted that by changing one unit in the contextual conditions, 0.518 units of change in motivation to participate in sports activities will occur.
