Abstract

This study aims to analyze the performance of Iran’s Olympic delegation in the Summer Games from 1948 to 2024 and conduct a comparative evaluation with selected Asian countries. The research employed a descriptive-analytical approach using quantitative methods. In the first phase, Iran’s performance was categorized and examined across four historical periods: the “Formative Period,” “Post-Revolution,” “Growth and Flourishing,” and “Relative Stability.” Findings indicate that, despite fluctuations, Iran has followed a gradual upward trend in key indicators, including the number of athletes, the diversity of disciplines, and medal counts. In the second phase, Iran’s performance was compared with that of 12 selected Asian countries. The results showed that Iran, with a total of 88 medals, ranked 4th in Asia and 39th globally. However, the top three Asian countries (China, Japan, and South Korea) have created a significant gap through strategic policymaking and major investments. Additionally, peer countries like Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan are improving their positions through structural reforms. To enhance Iran’s future Olympic performance, key measures are proposed, including focusing on disciplines with competitive advantages, supporting emerging sports, developing a national system for talent identification and development in collaboration with specialized institutions, and organizing private sector involvement through financial incentives and strengthening the branding of national events. Implementing these strategies can contribute to greater sustainability, balance, and efficiency in Iran’s elite sports system.
